The official method is to take out the radio and then push the SID out from behind, but I found you can just lever it out with a small screwdriver if you're careful not to damage the plastic. As for fixing it, it's not a soldering job. There's a few on-line fixes for the flexible cable based on trying to increase the pressure on the contact points but none of them worked for me. I ended up making a last-ditch attempt to completely replace the cable using wirewrap wire and conductive epoxy. Then I tried throwing it at a wall and jumping up and down on it. That didn't work either. The final fix was to buy a reconditioned one and get it programmed for the car at an independent Saab specialist. That fix seems to be permanent. If you go down this route, don't do the wall-throwing and jumping thing first - you can get some money off the recon unit for the old one. Cheers, Colin.
