In article <280b7$43110afd$438c4ae4$15492nospamEL.NET>, alofusblountmaybenospamel.net says... >Congrats! Hope the dear gives you lots of fun service. The leather may >need a bit of saddle soap and/or conditioner stuff. Most of it will come up a good feeding, I know that. The drivers seat is worse obviously, and the side edge of the back has lost some colour so may need to get one of those colour match dyes that the classic car specialists can provide. There is one very small rip which is covered by a very small patch of duct tape down at the bottom corner where the lower corner of the seat back is near the door card. I haven't removed the tape to see how bad yet, as long as it holds, it won't be seen with the door shut, and I'll either look eventually for a decent replacement seat, or get an upholsterer to fit a repair panel. >The news of the edging >tape means that the top is nearing end of life. What normally kills them in >this neck of the woods, (NE Ohio USA) is UV. The fabric and piping gets >brittle and what looks like razor cuts start showing up. My top started off >with just ratty piping. I stitched up the edges and it looked ok for a >time. A few months later the cuts started showing up, at the fold lines. >This is the fabric cracking. If the piping is starting to go bad, I would >guess about 18 - 24 months to new top time. Mine went about 12 months, >(1992 C900 Conv.) On the plus side, it's worth it! Never a moments >hesitation to put a new top on. Not a problem since. It has seperated enough in places for the side wires to be seperate from the hood. I plan to get some cotton tape, some waxed thread and a brush on wax based waterproofer from a camping shop. Then I'll unpick the old plastic tape and stitch on the new tape. I reckon it is probably a weekends job were it is worst. I'll leave the rest until a new outer roof goes on. Headliner is fine. Were the outer bow goes across the hood, above the rear window, just were the fold creases happen, there are two small duct tape patches. They look more like cat scratches than cuts or fold wear. -- Carl Robson Car PC Build starts again. http://smallr.com/rz Homepage: http://www.bouncing-czechs.com
