What year Saab are you working with? I've had some problems with a '97 900. It is not *entirely* OBDII compliant. I finally got it working with the hardware you listed below, but the scantool.net software frankly sucks. I'm using www.palmerperformance.com software. Much more comprehensive and includes data logging. The ELM interface is slooooooooow, so don't expect much real-time monitoring - max is about 4Hz. With this combination I can monitor all supported sensors, read codes and reset the MIL. It's no where near as comprehensive as Saab's Tech II, but it does work well as a diagnostic aid.
