Subject: In praise of Optimax.
In fact I was suspicious that it was snake oil. I have tried it now and
then, and wondered if it was all in the mind, but an independent article
in 'Mechanics' renewed my interest. Shell claim that it can increase the
bhp, especially in turbo cars, but didn't give any figures. However, the
cleaning effect on the injectors can be a plus for older engines.
I decided a clean test and filled my tank with ordinary, then changed
back to Optimax the following week. The dreaded fuel cut out at full
acceleration was no longer there. The engine runs more consistently with
no hesitation or flat spots. Car is 1993 9000 CSE 2.0 LPT.
