Subject: 86 900 Transmission upgrade opinions
Hey all.
My 86 900t automatic tranny is on its way out and I planning to replace it
with a manual (I just hate the auto, I prefer the control of a manual). I
have secured a transmission & engine from a deceased SPG (rear ended, badly.
Engine was still good). Before I swap the auto out, I am going to have the
manual rebuilt. I want to upgrade the clutch and other areas.
So, what do I need from you?
1. Any recommendations on the brand of clutch and support hardware? there
are so many manufacturers, I have really no clue as to who is good and who
is just claiming to be good.
2. Will a stock master/slave clutch cylinder system be OK, or would that be
needed to be upgraded too? (I have a new set that was going to go into
another 900 that died before installation)
3. Besides upgrading the fly wheel, any other recommendations?
I have the OEM red box APC and an upgraded FPR (2.8 bar), and am planning to
add high flow injectors, fuel rail and high flow fuel pump to complete the
fuel system (maybe a rising rate FPR later), So I want a tranny that can
deal with the added power from the engine.
