Had to climb into the boot from the passenger compartment, undo the trim
on the boot lid & pull the rod that the release motor operates. At this
point I expected to see a big orange handle labeled "turn to open" or
something, but happily there wasn't :)
I've traced the problem to the wiring loom - there are a number of
broken wires where the harness enters the hard plastic conduit in the
boot lid (I'd been meaning to replace those bulbs for a while!).
I suspect a combination of work hardening and rubbing on the edge of the
plastic conduit is the cause.
I suppose I'll have to hunt down some flexible cable that's actually up
to the job (not much point paying some extortionate price for a
designed-to-break saab part) and solder it into this section of the harness.
Maybe sleeve it in some kind of strain reliever too for good measure.
While I'm there I'll do something about the sharp edge in another part
of the boot lid that the harness is also chaffing against - it's not
through the wire cases yet, but getting there.... yawn, not impressive,
but I'm coming to expect it of saab.
rgds all,
