Subject: in search of part for saab 1985 900s.
I went to the supermarket today to buy some essentials and came out started
my car and it died. tried starting it again and would not start. I checked
for loose vacuum hoses and did not see any.
was this going to be first time my saab was going to leave me stranded? I
called my wife to come pick me up. the Ice cream was going to melt and the
beer was going to get warm. (I live in usa and drink cold beer for all
readers that don't necessarily drink cold beer)
upon further inspection i noticed a plastic right angle boot that was half
gone. this boot is located on an assembly that comes off where air filter
is located. it then connects to a metallic type hose that goes around to
eventually to exhaust. from looking through a haynes manuel it looks like
it is the connector to the "air cleaner temperature control unit". sorry
i am not a mechanic, but i can read a book. (providing it has pictures)
my question is will i be able to find a generic part? or will i need to
specifically go to somewhere that stocks old saab parts? it's late on
friday and am wondering if i should remove part and go looking for generic?
or rig something up until I can find a saab part? I did not see part at
www.eeuroparts.com
i am assuming this is the cause of my woes today. my saab has been idling a
little low for about a week or so now. maybe this was why.
btw i had my wife jump in the car after i tied a plastic bag (that i had the
ice cream in) around the 1/2 boot and the car started for her. was it a
women's touch to get car started or should i take credit?
if i won the lottery i believe i would get my wife a brand new ford mustang.
but i think i would still drive my 1985 saab. even with it's 22 year old
aches and pains.
