It is fixed by a spring clip from inside, but there is no room to get a finger in the right position to set the clip. Of course you could always remove the engine and and auxiliaries :-). After much messing about and no help from Haynes, I found an ingenious solution, which I am happy to convey here: I took the wire from a coat hanger and made a small hook at the end. Then I could catch the spring clip with to hook and pull it in place.
