Subject: Key Remote, Theft Alarm, and Starting Issues --Are they all connected?
Hi All,
Question... I purchased a 2001 Saab 9-5 in September, and the car's
computer indicated that the key battery needed to be changed, which I
did right away, but within weeks it was indicating that it should be
replaced --AGAIN! I read in Saab's manual that a battery should last
for 4-5 years, and I checked the battery with a voltage meter and it
was fully charged. Also, a few weeks back the theft alarm set itself
off several times in one night --I was parked out in the middle of
nowhere, and nothing could have set it off. Since then the car's
computer has said to Service Theft Alarm. And, the most annoying
recurring problem is the car not starting. It is not the battery, as
all the panel lights and stereo turn on, but I turn the key and
nothing happens. This only happens intermittently. I am wondering if
it may need a new starter, or if it could be the car's computer
system, and all of these problems are related? I'm hoping someone out
there might have an idea of what's going on before I spend a lot of
'exploratory' money seeking the answer myself!
Thanks much!
Amanda
