While primarily a Used Vehicle Dealer, Father and Son owners
Mark and Jason Ginsburg, are SAAB afficianados.  They usually have a
SAAB in their inventory.  They are extremely knowledgeable about SAAB
and are set up to service all Euro makes.  Jason used to work at a local
SAAB dealer.  Mark is an uber-mechanic/nice guy type.  Check them out.
They are trustworthy.

Tom Carter is one of the good guys.  My wife and daughter were almost
stranded after driving our 9-5 wagon from western NY to the Phila. area,
where the CEL activated, the 9-5 dropped into limp-home mode, and ran badly.
She called me (at home) and thanks to SAABNET, I could immediately direct her
to Carter's.  It was 5 pm on a rainy Monday when they rolled into the shop, but
Tom rearranged his family schedule, worked 3 hrs. late to replace a throttle
body, and got them safely back on the road.  Many thanks, Tom! (Aug. 2007)

The owner, Tom, worked at a local Saab dealer for 13+ years before opening
his own shop--he's a certified Saab Master Technician. He's been fixing my
car (an 86 900s with 167K) for the past 3+ years and was the deciding
factor in my decision to purchase another Saab last month. Tom is an
automotive wizard, scrupulously honest, and just an all-around nice guy. If
you're anywhere in the Philadelphia region, it's well worth the drive to
Phoenixville....

Every SAAB owner knows one of the most important parts of SAAB ownership is
finding that great SAAB mechanic in your area.  For those of you who live
in the greater Philadelphia area, Tom Carter at Carter's Automotive in
Phonexville is your man.  Check his web site for directions and additional
info.

Dennis Sweeney Saab

Ligonier
(800) 270-SAAB or (800) 270-7222

If you are in the greater Pittsburgh area and looking for a quality Saab
mechanic with reasonable rates, a large inventory of used Saab parts,
that's a pleasure to deal with. You owe it to your self and your Saab to
visit Dennis Sweeney Saab in Ligonier, PA.

Dennis will ship parts to my door via UPS. If my car needs serviced and I
can't find the time to drive to Ligonier, Dennis will make arrangements to
meet me half way or pick up my car and leave me a Loaner. I don't know any
other Saab shop that would go that far to help their customers.
If I had to rate all of the things I have found through the internet, I
would pick Dennis Sweeney Saab as my number one find.

David Russell's Import Emporium
703-D West Simpson Street
Mechanicsburg

David Russell's Import Emporium is a great place to take your Saab. He is,
believe-it-or not, an honest repairman. We have been taking our SAABs to
David for about 8 years. We had a 1986 900 with over 156K miles; currently
have two SAABs: '89 SAAB 900 Turbo, 154K and a 9000 CS Turbo, 110K. David
keeps them happy and running. You can feel the love! He does not make you
feel like an idiot when you tell him the car makes a thubbing noise. Like our
dentist, he will ask how something seems to be working out with a follow-up
telephone call. He does not make any repairs before their time, and does all
he can to keep the cars safe and fun to drive! The 9000 still runs like a new
car, and manages to impress those who ride in it. Recently I told someone
with a Lumina how many miles it had, and he was incredulous. David is a
one-man operation, so what he says is the real deal. We highly recommend him!

I had the pleasure of meeting Dennis while I was looking to replace my first
Saab- a 1986 900s. Although I did not end up purchasing a vehicle from him, I
found his passion and integrity singular. I highly recommend him and his staff
as both a dealer or repair shop. You can do no wrong.

Wow! When my rice-burning Subaru died, Dennis was there to help
me with a Saab loaner-car, a 9000 Aero/turbo of all things!  And guess
what, I had never driven a Saab before, knew nothing about them, and I
fell in love with the Aero.  I had no idea what a *swell* car this is!
In comparison, the Subaru drives like a rock on square wheels (I do have
to admit, it was great as a work horse in the snow).   So, the price of
the Aero was right--I just kept it and bought it.  A great helpful shop!

On my drive back from NC to Toronto, my 03 9-5 had trouble turning over
in VA. I made it to Saab of Richmond and they told me I needed a new battery and
alternator (at 45,000 miles). I had the battery replaced. Had same trouble in WV.
Made it to Pennsylvania and found this shop recommended on this site. I echo the
sentiment posted, they diagnosed car's  issue properly (not alternator) and went
out of their way to get me on the road. Their rates are also reasonable. Wish I
could find an independent shop like this in Toronto!

Joe Davis Autosport is great independent Saab service center located in
Perkasie, PA, between Philadelphia and Allentown. This garage is the reason
I bought a used 9-3 for our son. Having never owned a Saab before, they were
very helpful in telling me what to look for when shopping for a used one.
Since I bought a used 9-3, they have performed all the maintenance, and I've
been very pleased with their work and pricing. They are so pleasant and
knowledgeable that I now take all my cars to them for service.

Tim Brown and Kevin Booth are two of the premier SAAB mechanics in the US.
I have had work done on my 99 and 900's.  Both are very knowledgeable and
personable.  Most importantly, they are honest, something all too rare
these days. They both actively race SAABs as well (check the website).  My
only regret is that I couldn't get them to move to Chicago with me to
continue servicing my car!!  I would recommend them over any shop I have
ever been to.

I have been taking my Volvos and Saabs to Lenny and his crew for over 25
years now.  Their service is so much better than any other I have found
that I only buy Saabs and Volvos (though they have begun to do repairs on
Maximas).  They have advised me NOT to have some expensive repairs done
and have often found parts from donor cars that saved me a substantial
amount of money.  In addition, I have called them with the symptoms that
a car is experiencing and they have been able to tell me what the problem
is (and at least once, how it repair it myself).  They are simply the best
and I would recommend them to anyone.

I have been going to Demi(Demi Valtanis) for about 10 years. The work his
shop does is excellent.  He is a SAAB certified mastertech and he works
primarily on SAABS. I have taken all three of my SAABS there ('83 900T, '89
9000, '91 900T) The pricing is reasonable. He is a SAAB freak himself, he
drives a 87 900T that is highly modified.

If your looking for a honest SAAB mechanic in Bucks County Pa. that will fix
your car today and also give you an idea of what you may also need in the
future. Demi is your man. (Does what you expect and then some) A Master
Mechanic. He also has a SAAB that he races and rebuilds SAAB cars for resale.
You feel he has seen it all when you tell him your problems. If he hasn't you
sense he is interested in solving you latest to add to his knowledge and to
get you back on the road again. I love my 93 turbo convertible with 126,000
miles and feel quite confident that Demi and his crew (Billy, Gus and John)
can keep it running and feeling like a new car for along time. While the rest
of my family has new autos I will continue to drive my SAAB - because I feel
secure that if it breaks -Demi will know what is wrong and have fixed in a
hurry as well as I just like it!

Independent garage, almost exclusively SAAB. All of my experience has been
with 900s.  Owner's name is Jeff Purcel. I've experienced good work for
reasonable prices. (Translate: Done right the first time, for prices less
than the dealerships).  Only tough t hing is that they are ~30 miles (east)
from center of Pittsburgh - a long haul if your car is badly ailing...

I live a fair distance away from Greg's shop, plus, I drive many miles a day
and find it hard to get into a shop that's even close to me. One time, I took
my car to a different place where they told me I needed a timing belt. This
sounded serious enough to only let a Saab expert work on it,so I called Greg
to set up an appointment .... and am I SO glad I did. He explained that I didn't
even have a timing belt. .... And this happened one too many times with various
parts. Greg has always been honest with me in what I can and cannot do with my
car. He knows how many miles I can go with a problem and what is and isn't a
problem. I have never met anyone who is as fair and efficient as he is. I don't
trust anyone else.

When your __insert adjectives__ dealer and your local __insert adjectives__
independents are scratching their heads over what to do about your endless
intermittent gremlins and reaming your wallet in the process, just take a
deep breath, call Gregg Szakmeister (The Saabmeister) then exhale a sigh of
relief. Gregg is one of those rare few who has that mechanical know-how
gift. His garage is very independent, very competent and outrageously
reasonable on cost and demeanor. Do-it-yourselfers and ski-noses are
equally welcome. When the yogurt hits the fan on my mint classic 900, I
drive her down to Saucon 2.5hrs away. Goodbye gremlins...Hello peace of
mind.

Not knowing how recently these reviews are submitted, I just wanted to
add that after finding Greg's shop through the Saab Network, I have had
all of my prayers answered. In the fifteen years that I have owned various
SAAB models, it took me until now to find the perfect balance of reasonable
cost, willingness to go above and beyond as well as a tremendous degree of
knowledge. Thanks.

I have been taking cars to this shop for over 10 years. They have always
provided quality service at a reasonable price. I bought a '97 900 SE turbo
December, '99 and, after one trip to the local Saab Dealer, returned to
Shillington Automotive. They continue to provide the same reliable service
on my Saab as they had on my other vehicles.
