engine block heater?

My daughter has a 05 92-x Aero and is now living in Montana where it has already been well below zero. Though the car has been starting it sure needs an engine block heater. Has anyone had one installed? Saab doesn't sell them but you can get one from Subaru for 30 bucks. My dealer said this won't affect the warrenty. Should I believe him? These work by replacing a freeze plug, right?
