My 2005 Aero 5MT speedometer quit working one morning. The odometer was also not working. Within seconds the Check Engine light came on. The cruise control would not set. From those symptoms I figured it was the speed sensor, but after Charles River Saab looked at it they determined that the speedometer gear in the transmission had failed. After some advice from SaabUSA about what other gears to replace (damaged by the failed speedometer gear? I'm not sure) they have decided to replace the entire transmission with a new one. Luck for me, all under the 4 year 50,000 mile warranty. They even gave me a free loaner car for the duration (first a 2003 9-3 convertible, now a brand new 2008 9-5).
