I had purchased a insurance auction total loss that was hit in the front without airbag deployment. I was able to restore the sheetmetal work, but was lost with the electrical. Located here in LI I located Peter Robinson a SAAB master technician who now works out of his home.
The vehicle started by having a broken fuse box, which was replaced and the correct vin added to the car via Peters tech II. The car had been in the saab imobilizer mode and Peter was able to clear many of the faults and codes but the car would still not turn over. He had replaced the battery cable to the starter and did some other work to get the car to turn over. The steering lock is not working and he must override the key every time to get it out of the ignition. Upon further diagnostics found there to be a fault in the SIM module. I went and purchased a used SIM and brought it to him. He was able to remove or "divorce" the mated VIN from the SIM but is able to add it to my car. He explained that when he goes to add it, he is getting a message that he needs security access to add the SIM. After gaining security access and going back to the car it again can not be added stating sucurity access is needed.
Can you not add a used SIM without the matched Key? The used SIM had the old VIN removed but Peter is going in circles and can not add my cars VIN because it thinks he does not have security access when he does. Do I need the mated key that the used SIM came from?
Any ideas or help would be much appreciated, I have had this car under the works for over a year and need to make a decision if its worth continuing or if it has serious issues that may not be resolved.
Thank you,
Andrew
