Thanks, it's seems as though the alternator is the likely culprit. I am just relieved the turbo or any internal engine bearings can be ruled out. I've grown too attached to the girl to see her go down like that. As far as the alternator goes, the noise has went away and battery and lights seem fine so I will press on. If the alternator does go, I think that is in the diy realm. Thanks for the insight. I may have a few 2k plus trips in the near future so I will go with confidence.
