Saab and Volvo use the same pad in those models. The Volvo genuine pad is not any better as far as dust and longevity. It might actually be that the newer genuine pad from Saab (Textar) is better than the Volvo one.
But your XWD probably had that better Textar pad from factory.
Since we don't have rust here I can't say if it is a chance that cheap pads might have rust prone particles in the friction material but that sounds pretty crazy if that would be the case.
Who knows though in today's market where cheap trumps quality.
Rust is some nasty stuff though as I was reminded of when I helped a friend in Sweden a couple of years back changing brakes on his Volvo. I had forgot how bad it could be.
