Sometimes it can be difficult to get all info lined up and sometimes the info gets taken out of context and another story woven on that material.
As you just read from Chadwick's ordeal, not even the 06-08 B284L engines have exactly the same dna so I would highly doubt that the NG9-5 V6 engine A28NER and A28NET are a bolt in substitute for the 9-3 B284L engine.
It might be parts here and there that cross connect but you would have to sit down with a parts catalog and run number by number from the two engines to see what they have in common.
I think you also might confuse the 2.5L V6 engine in the NG900 and the 3.0L V6 engine in the 9-5 and 9000 which all had a timing belt with the 2.8L engines in the 9-3 Aero and NG9-5 which used a timing chain.
