Carfax or Mechanic?

Hello everyone!
So I'm thinking about buying this beautiful 2006 9-3 from a private buyer. I test drove it and it drove great. Suspension seemed sound, engine was smooth and everything. Afterwards, the seller told me what I didn't want to hear - salvage title. He says it was a rear end collision that caused the air bags to deploy. Supposedly the airbags are so expensive that that in combination with replacing the bumper caused the car to be salvaged.
He told me he can email me a picture of how it looked after the accident, which supposedly isn't bad, to prove his story.
Now my dilemma is this: We're both free today and tomorrow but pour mechanics are closed. Do I wait until we are both available on Tuesday to get my Saab mechanic to look at it to give me peace of mind (which he has readily agreed to)
or
if I pay for a Carfax do you think it would tell me enough to prove his story?
I know I'm getting impatient, but I'm already starting to feel like the Saab is mine, and have a good feeling about it. I want to buy it today, but I also don't want to get screwed...
Any input is appreciated!
