Yes, the catalytic converter is that good in hiding (burning) oil consumption. It is plainly an incinerator.
With no external oil leaks on the ground, you know the oil is going out the tail pipe, no questions about that.
I thought you said when they found oil with the camera it was valve stem seals, not an incorrectly installed valve cover gasket???
It is a PCV check valve hiding in the intake manifold under the throttle body but we haven't seen much problems with them and I have only replaced one on an 03 9-3 due to incorrect crank case vacuum and oil consumption.
That valve is sensitive and if you don't know the proper function (direction of air) of it, you might damage it by blowing air through it the wrong way.
Intake manifold has to come off to replace that valve.
