I'm no expert on the B235 engine, but I don't think it contains "a design defect that does not allow the oil to circulate properly". With the 9-5 version (maybe also the 9-3 at that time), they did go to a finer mesh screen on the oil pickup tube, and they might have changed the oil pump. They also initially used a Semi-Synth motor oil, with 10k mile changes UNDER NORMAL USE. Unfortunately, many people don't have normal use, they have primarily short trips, and should have observed a SEVERE DUTY oil change schedule. I don't know that your cars fell under that category, but... if so, you could have been changing that semi-synth every 3k miles. If you want to blame your dealer for not recommending more frequent changes, that's fair, but don't blame the car.
I might assume the multiple turbo changes were related to the sludging. I've done one turbo replacement between all my 9-5's.
If by ignition failures you mean the DIC, I had one fail without warning on my 2002, replaced under warranty. SAAB changed software and perhaps minor electronics back in 2004 (or so), so now they give plenty of warning, and can be changed in less than 5 minutes.
Perhaps the Serp belt is weird, maybe it's got another pulley than most other cars (I don't know) but it's just a belt.
Sorry you had problems, but other than the rear suspension and coolant bypass valve, 2005+ 9-5's are a very reliable car.
