2004 9-3 - Automatic Climate Control..

So here is how it goes...

The wife came home early last winter and said that her blower fan was not working anymore...

Removed the Cabin Air filter, spun it with my hand sprayed some lube and all seemed to be well.. but I noticed it would only come on when I changed speeds... either way we forgot about it... it's a convertible and we parked it for the winter..

So same issue... Got in the car started it up, no fan... spun it by hand and now it works every time - you change fan speeds.. so if you start the car and the blower is "on" it will not spin but it will after I change the speed....

Thoughts? Is it just corroded enough that a speed change kicks it into gear? Is it the resistor? I have the glove box out and I am dreading pulling the motor to lube it.. haha Any thoughts would be appreciated!
