engine clacking noise Posted by Gator Ray [Email] (#1044) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gator Ray) on Sat, 24 May 2014 15:54:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Anders, anyone else on Saabnet with experience on this issue: 2008 Aero 2.8 v-6 with 60000 miles. Normally a very quiet and smooth engine. Today, it started "clacking" like a diesel when idling. Oil level fine (Mobil 1/filter) 1000 mi ago. No messages on the dash or SID. I am mystified and alarmed!
Update Day 2: No noise upon cold start. As the car neared operating temp, the "clacking" noise ensued-very loud. Noise only apparent during idle; goes away with increased rpm's.
Is it possible that the oil pump pressure is low at idle starving the cams/valves? If that is the case, then why does the noise only commence when the oil is warmer/hotter? Other suspected ideas and remedies?
HELP!
