Well, when it comes to the V6 engine, anything is up in the air.
I would probably aim high because if the customer is not interested in going all the way and have it repaired properly, it is better to pass on the job and have them find another shop.
Since I don't know the symptoms or fault codes or the diagnostic procedure that the dealer did on your car I have no clue what it could be or the cost.
I just spent about 4-5 hours fault tracing a slight cold start misfire on cylinder #1 a few weeks ago and after some tedious testing and head scratching I suspect the valves or valve seats are having some issues.
I sent him to my former place of work since I could not take on such a huge job and they came to the same conclusion and told him the cylinder head had to come off but he decided to drive the car when he heard the price of it.
