Is there a check valve in the brake vacuum system? Your description sounds like the classic symptom of a failed check-valve in the brake vacuum system. The valve exists just so the vacuum will not bleed off while the car is turned off to ensure braking capacity immediately after restart.
Assuming the TX has such a valve.
My youngest son's girlfriend's BMW X3 (I unsuccessfully tried to talk her into a 9-4X )has the same problem. But her issue has been traced to a faulty (and very expensive!) vacuum booster as BMW has changed out everything else under warranty.
