Check Engine Light and Fuel Sensor Replacement

A few posts down I posted a question about the check engine light coming on after I replaced the fuel level sender on my 2004 9-3. I took Anders advice and ran the code. It's coming up as a vent leak (bad gas cap). I'm going to switch out the gas cap to check, but I'm pretty sure I need to replace the gasket on the fuel pump. My question is that when I take off the fuel pump there's a hose that goes into the tank and connects to something inside the tank. Is there a way to get the old gasket off and the new gasket on without disconnecting that hose? Or can I disconnect that hose at the fuel pump? It seemed like a really tight connection so I am nervous to try and force it. As always any help and advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Sean
