For everyone's amusement, I thought I'd post a follow-up with new info regarding my '08 9-3 V-6 engine problem. The tech at the dealer now believes my engine requires a cam phaser (possibly a kit), not a timing chain tensioner as originally thought. The parts dept. says the part is not available, nor manufactured currently by SAAB.
A second option they are giving me is buying a used engine from Goldwing for approx. $3000, plus $1500 to R & R and hook up engine.
Given the proposition that the cam phaser might not fix the problem, nor be available, replacing the engine may be my only choice. Ouch.
