Hi
I am looking at a 2006 Saab 9-3 Convertible 4-cylinder. A used car dealer has it. The car appears to be in excellent shape. Interior looks like new. Exterior has two very minor small scrapes (one near the right rear fender and the other on the bottom side of the front apron). In any case, I opened the trunk and it was very clean. I pulled up the carpet to check the tire and its well and it was clean also. I then noticed this brownish material that appears to be placed over a seam between the back of the car and the forward part of the trunk. it goes from left to right and under carpet I can't pick up. it looks like smeared peanut butter about an inch wide. Not smoothly done. it is hard to the touch. I would almost say it was an epoxy. It was a different color than the exterior of the car (the trunk metal is also the same color as outside). I asked about it - and was told "it's factory!." I was then shown a 2004 9-3 sedan's trunk and it had the same stuff. I thought it was curious at best and wondered if this was covering a repair or something. Do all 2006 (or other) Saabs have this smeared material in the trunk (left to right in a line about six inches from the inside back of the car)
p.s I was a member of saabnet, guess i didn't renew. checking how to do that. thanks for your continued help. This will be my family's 12th Saab.
