I think the danger here is to think that one repair would magically solve all the problems.
If the remote neither lock or unlock the car, I find it strange that the car alarm is triggered when the key is used manually to open the door.
If the car cannot be locked with the remote, the alarm should not be set either when you lock the car with the key blade.
If the alarm has been activated, the key has to be inserted and removed one time before it can be turned to cranking position.
It also happens that the remote dies and a new one has to be programmed to car. Have she tried her spare key/remote?
I replaced an ISM for steering lock message last week as I have done several times before.
