Hi All, wondering if any has been down this road before with a slow leak to inner axle seal, driver's side on the Sport Combi. Dealership picked up on it and showed it to me...there is indeed T fluid on the boat which covers the half axle as it enters the transmission case. The mechanic checked the T fluid level and indicates that it's OK.
The dealership is proposing a new inner axle seal as the remedy. It is claiming 2.5 hours labor minimum whereas a trust independent is quoting 1 hour, plus the part.
Another trusted indy is raising the issue of the bushing behind the seal as possibly starting to fail, as the underlying issue causing the seal to leak. He is quoting 2 hours roughly to pull the half axle and replace the seal. He is looking into whether it's possible to pull and replace the bushing without re-building the entire gear box.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated. It's a 6 speed manual, 56K miles, no other issues. Replaced throttle body earlier this year but everything else seems good to go.....
Best, David
