I spent $60 on a kit from here http://www.vvme.com/hid-headlights/single-beam-hid-conversion-kit/9006-hb4-hid-conversion-kit/digital-slim-9006-hb4-hid-light-conversion-kit
I put the same kit in my electric Fiat 500. Works really well, extra bulbs are $10, so I bought 5000k and 4300k for spares. Since I have DRL enabled, I thought it useless to connect the bulb ignitors to the 'switch', ie using the OE bulb socket as the trigger for the relay that powers this setup. I did that first and the lights flickered like crazy, so I am just using a blank/fuseless slot in the fusebox to serve as the trigger, which comes on when the car is turned on. You have to cut a circular 23mm hole in the 'dustcap' covering the low beam for the wires to come through. You also have to bend some prongs out of the way for the HIB bulb on the bulb holder that you twist into position to hold the bulb firm. + comes right from the battery and - the frame.
So now the OE bulb sockets have no bulb, so the resistor thing is order, but someone told me if I go to the shop and have them use the tech II scanner to set my lamps to (sic) 'xenon' ie HID, that will do it. So I will try that and then start with resistors after that. If you want more info I can give it to you.
