So about a week ago, we got 8" of snow and I had a plane to catch. I drove about 70 miles in snow pack, icy roads with the last 10 being just wet pavement. I then park the car in a BFE parking lot out in the plains where it is windy all the time and the lot has about 4-6" of snow. We are gone for 4 days, all of which are increasingly colder. I got back to the car at 1 a.m. and it is -18F. The car turns over, reluctantly, but it doesn't catch. Hit it a couple more times, but see the battery is failing pretty quick. (Interstate, 1 year old)
Well, I get a jump, first with a jump box, then with a van + the jump box and it just will not catch. It is turning over and doing so pretty well, but doesn't start.
So, rental car home and I went back the next day. It is then 21F, but still breezy and feels colder. I add some winter fuel additive and try to jump again... for like half an hour. Same results; turns over but won't catch. I have never had ANY issue (that wasn't battery related) starting this car in similar temps.
Any ideas or suggestions?
