Far less dire wrong plug story Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 19 Jul 2015 09:00:04 In Reply to: Thanks, MI-Roger [Profile/Gallery] , Sat, 18 Jul 2015 14:50:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Every Spring I replace the plug, air filter, and engine oil in our mower. Since it has a B&S Quantum engine I try to get the Briggs authentic tune up kit with these parts, a kit that is harder to find each year.
This year I went to a local hardware store with an extensive small engine repair department expecting to find the kit. They didn't have it either but the mechanic leaned over his counter to point at the loose packed filters and spark plugs instructing me which ones to buy.
After doing the tune up the engine started on the first or second pull when cold, but would require 10 to 20 pulls to start when hot. After putting up with this for a few weeks I decided to replace the Oregon branded plug the Mechanic told me to buy, and which he said was as good or better than Champion, with a Champion plu.
Voila! Problem solved. Oregon plugs are made by Bosch but the plug that the Mechanic pointed to from his counter 6 feet away was the wrong Oregon plug for my mower engine.
