intermittent radio unit function - 2010 9-3 2.0T Posted by SPG Jr [Email] (#1830) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SPG Jr) on Tue, 1 Dec 2015 06:53:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The radio on my wife's daily driver 2010 9-3 with about 60k has begun failing occasionally. It either works or doesn't work upon start-up and maintains that state for the duration of the drive. it doesn't come in and out while driving, so doesn't seem to be a loose connection or harness. I'm told the malfunction reverses itself upon restart. I haven't yet had a chance to test by shutting down and restarting immediately after a startup malfunction, to confirm whether the restart fixes it 100% of the time. It appears no power is getting to the unit when it does fail--no display, no sound, no bluetooth, etc. It doesn't seem to affect any other function of the car. No other electronics are failing that she's noticed. Dash instruments and controls seem fine.
Search the board, couldn't locate anything similar. The amp should be downstream of the head unit, so I don't believe it would be that (unless in some engineer's mind it made sense to route the power from the amp to the head?)
Sound like a bad head unit, or is there more to the electronics, circuits, relays involved when starting the car? Like the beginnings of a bad SID/CPU or something. Bad fuse? For better or worse, I have not had to put much effort or research into this car, so am unfamiliar with its idiosyncrasies. (compared to 20 years of SPG and a couple years of '99 Viggen)
Thanks-
