XWD rear shocks (Nivomat) internal force Posted by magalar [Email] (#1325) [Profile/Gallery] (more from magalar) on Mon, 25 Jan 2016 18:15:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Well, having a dead Nivomat means I still have a good used unit I can test. And since a friend of mine brought me a used hydraulic press, I did some tests with a personal scale.
The unit I have here supports 195 lbs when not compressed. At the end of the stroke, in full compression, this force raises to 220 lbs (exactly 1 magalar !) You can substract 10 lbs from each value for the Nivomat own weight.
Now, the funny thing is these were replaced under warranty at 52k km (30k miles). Now the car is at 113k km. So life expectancy for these in a car that lives downtown Montreal is very short. Too short to give GM 2381$ for a new pair...
And funnier still, these Nivomats are for a sedan, while my car is a wagon. Since they were replaced in 05/2010, I guess parts supply was not optimal and they did what it taked to return the car on the road.
From What I can read on the remaining label :

Made in Germany
Normally, the unit for the wagon is 12646631.
