Our is an automatic 2.0T rather than a manual but reliability has been awesome! This is my wife's daily driver and total maintenance/repairs in the nearly 10 years and 75K miles of ownership are:
Rear brake pads, fronts are still factory original, D-I-Y job
Front springs, special GM Warranty
HVAC blower motor, original lasted 8+ years, D-I-Y job
The lone optional repair I made was to replace the Tee fitting in upper coolant hose. Per JustinHiFi these plastic Tee fittings are prone to breakage in hot climates. Michigan doesn't fit the description but I purchased one of Justin's machined aluminum Tees and installed it as purely a precautionary measure.
Regarding car seats. We fitted a car seat for a 2 year old in the center rear posiiton last Spring for a drive to our youngest son's house. The young girl's parents rode beside her in the back seat. Total time in the car was only around 2 hours total for both legs of the to-from trip but no one complained of too little room. The parents are both slender and in the 5-10 to 6-0 height range.
This car just goes forever without complaint!
