As far as I have seen and heard there are very few failures or issues with the 9-3 auto transmission from around 2005 and up and if the fluid has been changed on a regular basis and proper fluid used, they seem to hold up very well.
The first two years of the Sport Sedan had problems with the radiator which contaminated the trans fluid and there were several failures from that but later years seems to be doing well.
There are very few to almost non existent transmission rebuilder that can guarantee a like new rebuild of the 5 speed auto. I have not been able to find one yet.
The 9-5 have many more issues with the 5 speed auto and I don't know why since they are fairly similar to the 9-3.
