Go drive a Saab 9-3 SS manual and auto first. I have had both and around town the auto is neat as the torque converter lets the turbo spool up and the car is always on boost on take off and between shifts, therefore it feels peppy. The manual is in comparison a little less responsive and the tall gears around town work against it. The Ecotec engine is a gem but make sure it has been serviced well with synthetic oil as some owners skimp which will lead to problems. Handling is great as they have passive rear steer as the car was benched marked by Saab to out handle the BMW 3 series. We track the manual and with std suspension keep up with the WRX's on a handling track.
