Greetings Everyone:
The old Blue 03 9-3 is still going strong (370k and counting) but I've ran into a place where some work is needed. After taking her on a 800 mile trip I heard a squeak noise in front left side. Originally i thought/hoped it was a rock in brakes but after a few hundred miles it repeated the noise. It's gotta be a bearing so I figure the only two spots are the wheel bearing or perhaps where the axle comes outta the manual trammy case. Hopefully it's the former and not the latter and i changed front wheel bearings about 200k ago (fag oem brand) so the ones on there now need a change. I think I'll change the rear too since they are original.
Since I'll have the bearing off, i figure overhauling the brakes wouldn't be too tough while I'm in there so what is a good caliper brand? The appropriate size should be listed in the manual (03 linear with sport package). The problem is while my brakes don't hang per se meaning I can still spin the wheel and gas mileage is good, i do notice on long drives on interstate they produce dust and get super hot in the front so it seems the pads are making slight contact (i stop with e brake when determining front brake heat) and my mechanic mentioned the older calipers get full of gunk overtime and that can make them stick a bit. Should I opt for the new caliper set up and how tough is installation? I figure they come retracted so it should be a simple bolt on clip in install. Any tips for keeping them from getting air in the line after install?
Best to Everyone and thanks in advance.
