Got the rear brakes done today. Used Wagner rotors and ceramic pads from rock auto. All things considered not too bad. Some points:
The E18 Torx bolts that hold the caliper bracket on are VERY tough to get out. Even after you break them loose the thread lock compound keep the torque very high for lots of turns. I kept thinking they had rusted in place, but no, they were very clean, just the thread lock.
You will have to also remove a large bolt that goes through the hub to gain access to the top caliper bracket bolt. It is E20 on one end and a standard hex nut on the other end. That wasn't too bad to get out but you will need the E20 torx to do this, not just the E18. I had the E20 from doing the fronts earlier which use E20 for the caliper.
I used the $49.99 Harbor Freight disk brake tool set to rotate and push the pistons back in. I know HF gets a bad rap but this is actually a pretty well made kit. I was considering one of the small cubes where you have to apply the push in force yourself but I figured I would give this a try. Highly recommended. Getting the pistons back in was very easy.
The car had 51K miles on it and this is the first time I have touched the rear brakes. Pads were pretty thin, probably down to 10 or 20% of new pad thickness. Probably could have re-used the rotors, but new ones are so cheap these days. I also suspect you will get more life out of the pads by going with new rotors also.
