Must not have been heat treated properly.
The snouts I am familiar with are a short piece of 1-1/2 to 2 inch diameter steel tubing. One end is welded to the torque converter housing and the other has two square notches cut in to the end of the tubing. When installed, the tube extends past the seal and into the transmission where the square notches drive the oil pump. I am assuming one or both of these notches have failed with visible cracking extending down the length of the snout. These cracks could have damaged the seal.
New seal and new torque converter required.
