Where did *my* coolant go?, Posted by Justin VanAbrahams [Email] (#32) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Justin VanAbrahams) on Tue, 10 Jan 2017 14:50:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm just kidding, I know where it went.
The new-to-me 9-3 Aero has decided it prefers the coolant on the outside of the engine, so we're having a disagreement about that.
Loss is not catastrophic - 500 miles resulted in the loss of maybe a cup or two, just enough to cause the warning to come on. I put a pressure tester on it and there is a drip visible at the rear right corner of the oil pan - it's *pouring* rain here so actually looking isn't possible, but the leak is from somewhere over on the accessory drive side of the engine and does not appear to be anywhere near the reservoir or turbo or radiator.
Having no idea what this engine looks like, any thoughts on sources for the leak? Obviously the water pump is on the list, but anything else over in that area I can anticipate or should investigate? Maybe a hose to or from? Some heat exchanger?
The car just turned 100k so I am fully expecting some maintenance. The belt drive was already on the list, so I'm really happy this happened now instead of *after* I'd done that work. ;)
Much thanks!
