I asked this same question to a Rep from Orio Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 15 Jan 2017 05:46:11 In Reply to: 2003-2005 airbags vs. 2006 and later, 85SLED, Sun, 15 Jan 2017 04:56:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The earlier airbags were made by Autoliv, and I asked if an Autoliv airbag could be placed in a 2008 9-5 in place of the Takata unit. His answer was not definitive, but indicated he thought there may have been other changes made to the steering column that would result in the Autoliv bags not fitting.
I haven't checked my EPC to verify or invalidate his suspicions. If all other components in the 9-5 steering column, wiring harnesses, impact sensors, etc., are common from prior to 2006 through end of production in 2009, then the Autolliv units should fit.
