The problem I think with buying a car with exactly 100k on it is that it's gotta be for sale because the previous owner fixed nothing, waited for that sixth digit to click over, and then sold the car. Their gain is my loss!
Anywho, '08 Aero Combi threw a P0089 the other day. I reset it, and it came back more or less instantly. I know WIS recommends a fuel pressure tester and Tech2 to run the fuel pump tests, but after reading about two dozen threads on P0089 it seems the only solution ever is replace the pump. So, fair enough. Plus, I am hoping that a bad pump might be responsible for what might be a little odd low-speed transmission shift behavior... I saw a post where someone mentioned "premature downshifts" as a side effect of their failing pump... fingers crossed.
I completely cheaped out and ordered a Carter brand fuel pump from rockauto. I generally don't buy generic replacement parts for Saabs, but I have never had a bad experience from Carter on a myriad of cars (it is my go-to brand) and it's literally 30% less than the next option. I need to save those Benjamins for my next round of lock/latch replacements. ;)
Anyone have any pearls of wisdom on the replacement? I am committed to dropping the tank - I'm not going to cut up the floor. I think it's "just" remove the wheel well liner, drop some portion of the exhaust, drop the tank. Anything I should be prepared for or take note of in terms of disconnecting fuel lines & wiring harness? It's a native California car and looks squeaky clean up there, so I don't anticipate any mechanical trouble.
With any luck, my shipment will arrive this week and I can do the work next weekend. OTOH, California may be underwater by then and the whole thing may be moot. We'll see...
