I did not even have chance to open the clamp before it broke off on my wife's car with 157K miles.
No leaks beforehand to show what was coming.
Last week I did an 05 with 69K miles and I could crumble the pipe with my fingers.
This is one of my pet peeves of the auto industry where the white coat labrats have found a perfect composition of plastic where it only takes 20-30°F temp difference between hot and cold side of the cooling system to change the chemical structures of the plastic.
I see it over and over again on both Saab's and Volvo's where the upper radiator hose fitting turns brownish in color and crumbles to the touch whereas the cold side is as strong as when it left the factory.
Since the coolant mixture is the same rushing through both sides, temp is the only differentiating factor.
What adds to my anger is the ramifications and costs if the driver is not alert enough when it breaks and it ruins the engine from overheating.
The low level Volvo models don't even have a low coolant warning light anymore. And they use a radiator hose that you think was invented down in the demon halls somewhere with two plastic T-s that crack with age.
