Had Driver's seat bottom cushion re-skinned today Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Wed, 17 May 2017 10:11:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The auto upholstery guy needed 45 minutes to remove the seat, remove the old skin, attach the new Saab skin (which I bought from eEuro), steam the leather for a tighter fit, and re-install the seat in the car.
He said the side bolsters of the bottom cushion are leather, but a bonded leather (if I understood correctly). The thinness of the natural leather component in bonded leather leads to it cracking, splitting, and peeling free from its backing.
So for any Saabers in the Detroit area; check out SafeLite of Southgate (yes, the auto glass shop) where Ron, an experienced upholstery installer, can re-skin your seats, create all new custom upholstery, and install convertible tops.
