Found the answers and some interesting information. Of course these are discontinued cars, so parts can be available but dear. Local dealer only offers the entire tail light assembly. $300 or so, dealer, online, some down to maybe $280 or so. These are LED lights but if you open the things up, there are the complicated lens assemblies and the taillights themselves are LEDs on multiple circuit boards, clipped to a plastic "stair step" that holds them and orients them. The stair step fits in the housing with the lens assemblies and the other lights -- amber; backup, whatever. You can buy the 12774406 Repair Kit, which is the stair step plus circuit boards, for around $185, which is, obviously, $115 less than $300. Not knowing what was involved this is what I bought and had the shop install in maybe a half hour. However, the circuit boards and cable unclip in about 2 minutes. Some also list replacement circuit boards and those are more like $60. So the "repair kit" has a while piece of plastic for $125. I understand the economics of our vendors having to stock for discontinued models, but I wish I had known how easy it would have been to just swap the boards.
