Bought the fuel pump removal tool off amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F5LJ7S/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B000F5LJ7S&linkCode=as2&tag=thesaabnetwork). Worked awesome in removing and reinstalling.
Things I didn't realize when removing the "TWO" fuel line connectors right by the electrical connector: I was really careful not to damage the connectors. Pressing in on the connector tab didn't seem to work in releasing the fuel line - so I gently pried the tabs out by pushing on the little feet on the opposite side and removed the connector tabs (they are U shaped). My care in removing them was misplaced; new plastic connectors are included with the new fuel pump. So when removing the TWO fuel lines from the connectors, don't be shy. There is another connector that is right next to the brake lines. Be gentle with that one.
After disconnecting the 3 fuel lines (and electrical connector) then dropping the tank, be careful. There is another line that needs to be disconnected, so don't just let the tank drop without disconnecting that line.
Removing the fastening ring was fairly easy with the tool.
Before putting in the new pump, put the new o-ring on before putting in the new pump, and do as another suggested - put a little Vaseline on the o-ring. Also remember to connect the ventilation pipe to the pump before seating the pump in the hole. Once in, gently rotate the pump until the two plastic tabs seat into the corresponding cutouts on the hole so that the pump won't rotate any further when you are tightening that bad boy.
I tightened the fastening ring with a 2 foot breaker bar. I was not able to fasten it to TWO clicks. I tried, believe me, but there just wasn't room for the ring to rotate any further (maybe four MM of space), which wouldn't accommodate a second click.
Man-handling the tank into position was a exercise in frustration.
All-in-all, not a bad job, but took me longer than the 2 hours others have said it took.
Hope this helps someone.
