Weird one- my AC literally just suddenly stopped- help!

OK, so I'm driving my sons' '10 9-3 and I come to a stop light. While there, I go to adjust the temperature of the ACC and I accidentally hit the "AC Off" button. So, I hit it again to turn the compressor back on...and nothing. No more cold air coming out of the vents at all.
Got home and checked the relevant fuses and they all appear to be good. Then pulled the compressor relay and just kind of stared at it and put it back in (it looked like it was in good shape, for the record). Still nothing.
So I restart the car and am just sitting there and realize I can hear what sounds like the compressor turning on and off when I hit the A/C off button. The engine RPMs are also dipping very slightly, as expected. But still, only warm air is coming through the vents.
Anyone seen this before? The car was blowing ice cold air, then suddenly it wasn't after I hit the AC off button. Doesn't sound like a refrigerant loss to me, and if the refrigerant was low, wouldn't the compressor not turn on?
Any ideas are much appreciated- we're in the middle of a heatwave!
Brian
