I assume that corner actually works under the hydraulic system. If it doesn't work at all, then the rotor would probably get some surface rust where the pads aren't rubbing.
I haven't had to replace calipers (yet) but when retracting the pistons I only just turn them in enough to get them installed over the new pads/rotors.
Similar common problem on Hondas where I learned not to retract them all the way. On those calipers you could twist them backwards to push out a bit, or you could pull the handbrake 100 times or more to catch up. (I don't know if that would work on the Saab calipers) On the Honda calipers, it's also common for people to damage the mechanism by pushing the piston straight in with a C-clamp like you do on the front.
