I had good luck with a slim head 3/8 ratchet to move the tensioner. No need to remove engine mounts. I tried at least one specialty tool for which access was not happening. Search my prior posts for a write-up I did about success with a ratchet.
There are lots of posts about coil life, search to find them. Life seems to vary widely. Our 2006 2.0T is on original set of coils with 161K. I am planning a preemptive replacement at 180K, which is the next time I plan to do plugs.
