The recommended oil by the OEM pays to be recommended,not because it was deemed to be the best of the best by the OEM.

The oils

No they aren't 100% equal but like in all things you must look at the application of the product.In most cases there isn't a benefit other than a placebo effect.Think about it

Why use a Grp III+ or a PAO based product when a Group II product will suffice for cheaper?

BTW,

Synthetic oils do have their place but it's in extreme cases like startup in Artic conditions(-40f)with no block heater.That doesn't apply to most of us here.
